About Impaxio

Impaxio was founded by ETH Zurich and University of Zurich researchers Dr. Michael Brander and Dr. Matthias Huss. In their research projects with thousands of smallholder farmers in East Africa, Matthias and Michael realized the transformative power nested in SMS surveys. And what is more, in their conversations with smallholder farmers, they learned first-hand how much farmers loved to engage with SMS surveys. Impaxio reflects their aspiration to make high quality SMS surveys, monitoring and impact analysis accessible and affordable for everyone.

Dr. Michael Brander is Co-Executive Director of Impaxio. Michael also works as a senior researcher at the University of Zurich (Department of Informatics) and as an affiliated researcher at ETH Zurich’s Institute of Science, Technology and Policy. Previously, Michael was coordinator for Advocacy & Policy and a Senior Policy Advisor at Biovision Foundation, an NGO engaged in sustainable development projects in East Africa.

Dr. Matthias Huss is Co-Executive Director of Impaxio. Matthias also works as a senior researcher at the University of Zurich (Department of Informatics) and at ETH Zurich (Institute of Science, Technology and Policy). Matthias completed his doctoral thesis at the Department of Finance at the University of Basel, and still holds a position as lecturer there. Matthias worked for several banks and was a partner and co-owner of LPX Group.
